WHY ATTEND AVIATION CARBON 2022 ?
This year’s Aviation Carbon 2022 conference comes at a particularly challenging time for the aviation industry as it recovers from the deep impact of the Covid-19 pandemic yet faced with increasing pressure from governments, regulators and investors to ensure regrowth is sustainable and compatible with UN climate change targets. Once just a fringe concern, all airlines and aviation organisations now need a sustainability action plan in line with the adoption of an industry-wide net zero emissions by 2050 target.
Since our first event in 2012, Aviation Carbon has become the must-attend event for airlines and business jet operators needing to understand the latest updates and compliance requirements of emissions trading systems and then the global carbon offsetting scheme CORSIA. Ten years on, Aviation Carbon remains the only international conference that brings the aviation and carbon markets together, and the conference this year will be no exception. As well as the impact of fast-rising carbon prices on airlines, particularly in Europe, there will be an added focus on carbon removals as a long-term, out-of-sector measure to reduce emissions in line with net zero.
Faced with greater scrutiny from investors, airlines require an ESG strategy in place and sustainability-linked finance is becoming increasingly common, so there will be a strong focus on this important topic at this year’s conference.
Aviation Carbon 2022 follows immediately after ICAO’s 41st Assembly, when a decision is expected to be taken by governments on an important worldwide long-term emissions reduction target for international aviation, together with possible other changes to its CORSIA scheme. Our conference will be among the first to hear and discuss the outcome.
Sustainable Aviation Fuels
The deep cuts in aviation emissions that are now required to reach net zero will need a rapid and heavy uptake in new technologies, principally SAF, and this year’s conference has an added third day devoted to SAF policy and investment.
SAF use has so far been by the bigger airlines but all operators will need access to these new fuels and Aviation Carbon 2022 will address the complex issues on the policies and incentives needed to boost production of these fuels, narrow the price gap with conventional jet fuel and encourage uptake throughout the industry.
Corporates too are increasingly interested in the use of SAF, as well as offsetting, as a means of reducing their travel carbon footprint. The conference will also update delegates on other new technologies expected to revolutionise the aerospace sector.
As well as hearing and learning from experts, Aviation Carbon 2022 will provide delegates with the post-pandemic opportunity to meet old and new contacts, and network face-to-face for the first time in more than 2 years, over 3 days with the many experts and other stakeholders in this exciting and rapidly growing field.
